10 rules of nutrition and fitness that I live by. #feelgoodbloggingchallengeday 3

I love health and nutrition SO much that sometimes I get giddy just thinking about it. It makes me all tingling in my body and I get so pumped. Nutrition is so POWERFUL. When you eat the right foods, your mind and body can be transformed! I truly believe that eating healthy shouldn’t be difficult. The initial change may be hard, but once you see how you feel you won’t be able to stop eating healthy!

Who doesn’t want amazing energy? Glowing skin? Effortless weight maintenance?

All the health information out in the world is super confusing, convoluted, and contradictory. It is no wonder that people are confused!!

I believe that you have to figure everything out for yourself and you should question everything!  These are the 10 principles that I stand by when it comes to the health and fitness world.

Here are the ten rules of food, nutrition, fitness and everything health that I live by.

  1. I base all my meals around high quality protein, high quality fats, and whatever vegetables I am craving or feel like eating! I keep this part simple because I don’t like overcomplicating my time in the kitchen or the grocery store.
  2. I enjoy quality desserts! (Yep!! I eat dessert regularly!!) I believe everything is better homemade. If am going to eat dessert it better be top notch as I don’t even enjoy processed desserts.
  3. I don’t shy away from high quality fats. Fats keep you full, feed your brain, and give you energy! I have fallen for the anti-fat rule too but it just is simply not true. I have seen a difference in my energy when I eat high quality fat!
  4. There are a lot of foods I refuse to eat. One being hydrogenated fats or plant oils like margarine or canola oil. These are so inflammatory and possibly one of the most harmful foods you can eat. I really stay away from these because of my past history with skin issues. I choose to steer clear of these because not only have I read all the research, I have seen how these foods instantly make me breakout and have overall more inflamed skin. These bad fats are hidden in a lot of foods like: frosting, margarine, store-bought sweets, chips, etc.
  5. Listen to your body. This made seem like over said advice, but I cannot emphasize enough. I think most people are walking around NO idea how food makes them feel. Most people have to hit some type of health crisis before they learn how to eat best for our body. Fatigue, Allergies, Headaches, Break outs can all be caused by food. Start a food journal and note how different foods make you feel!
  6. Do workouts that you love. This is something else we over complicate.  There are tons of ways to move and be active. Move every day. It doesn’t have to be 1 hour of cardio. It doesn’t have to be weight lifting. Maybe you only like yoga! Just do what FEELS good at that moment in time! Don’t guilt yourself into following the “right” exercise plan. There is NO such thing and I can guarantee you will lose more weight and feel better if doing what makes your body feel the best!
  7. Balancing your hormones – If your hormones are out of whack, you will store fat no matter how little you are eating. Your body will always protect itself from harm, first and foremost. Your body thinks it’s in danger if your hormones aren’t balanced. Eat low glycemic diet and keep your stress levels as low as possible. Read Sara Gottfried’s the Hormone Cure for more details.
  8. Throw away all your diet books. Go read the Calorie Myth by Jonathan Bailor and/or The Bulletproof Diet by Dave Asprey. If you have an unhealthy relationship with reading diet books, break up with them. Here are the only 2 books you need to read.
  9. Don’t underestimate the importance of relationships, career, and finances impact on your health. Nutrition is such a small part of the puzzle. You could be eating all the right foods, but not be happy in the rest of your life. I know for myself, unhappiness in these areas causes me to overindulge and eat more sweets to deal with the sadness within myself. This is an extremely common problem and definitely needs to be examined if you feel like the real issue in your life isn’t food, but the reasons WHY you are eating more food.
  10. Your body knows everything best. – No DIET book, meal plan, exercise plan, or any plan for that matter can tell you the answers. Every day is different. Some days you will be able to run 13 miles. Other days you can only run 1 mile or maybe none at all. Some days you could eat the entire fridge and still be hungry while other days you won’t want to eat a thing. That is OKAY. There is no perfect formula for health. SO many people want a magic formula of what to do every hour and every day. Sorry to say, there is no such thing. Listen to your intuition and your gut when it comes to food and exercise. It will never fail you.

Every day my body is filled with incredible

In the future, I will be digging into a lot of these topics at a deeper level.  These are just some of the fundamentals that I live by.

Daily Affirmation: Every day my body is filled with incredible energy and vitality.
