3 Steps to Master your Mental Resilience and Not Empty the Cookie Jar
Holidays are tough when it comes to sugar and eating lots of delicious cookies! I love baking and enjoying the season, but I always seem to struggle with eating a “normal” amount of sweets. Sugar is extremely addictive and it is typically paired alongside with happy times which makes it connect in our brain that happy times = sugar. Sugar can be used for comfort, a burst of energy, and those feel good – endorphins. Many of us might find ourselves using sugar as a vice. Enjoying sugar from time to time is definitely okay. But when our health becomes compromised, there definitely comes a place when the amount of sugar you are eating needs to be examined. I have struggled with using sugar for both energy and comfort and so I want to share my 3 steps to that have me stay strong and not end in a sugar binge.
Here are my 3 steps to Mastering your Mental Resilience when it comes to sugar.
- Become Aware of the Problem.
Acknowledge that you have a problem with sugar. Then sit and explore the question, ‘why you are eating large amounts of sugar?’ Is it anxiety? Is it loneliness? Is it fear? Is there an area of your life that is causing you to feel this way?
Take a look at the Primary Food Wheel. This wheel includes all the areas of your life that make up YOU. If any of these areas aren’t where you want, they can cause tension or anxiety. Check in with yourself and become aware. Once you are aware of what is going on – you can create an action plan to improve that area.
- Decide how you want to FEEL.
How do you want to feel every day? How do you want to show up in life and your business? Sugar makes me feel good for a short time and then I feel awful. If I eat a LARGE amount of sugar, I don’t feel good at all. Everyone’s body is different, but for me. Sugar causes my skin to breakout. Sugar causes my gut to feel uncomfortable. I feel bloated and itchy.
Be empowered. Choose how you want to feel and make food choices that align with how you want to feel. 🙂
- Add a new healthy habit to take the place of sugar.
It is not easy to replace old habits, so work on finding something new to take the place of sugar! (preferably a healthy and positive habit) Some of my favorites include hot tea, kombucha, or probiotic tonics! Also adding in habits that improve your quality of life can help ease the anxiety. (question 1) If you feel lonely, reach out to your friends or family. Put yourself out there and meet some new people. Some habits that I have added in are a morning routine that specifically feels good to me! At least once or twice a month, I make an effort to meet up with different friends in the area!
These are some of things that have helped me, but find what feels good to you. 🙂
For me I have found that getting rid of bad habits requires you to Go out and do something that lights up your soul!
I have found that when my soul is LIT up, I find myself in a state of FLOW of creating, and the negative habits fall away. I don’t think about sugar or taking on other bad habits. I am happiest when I step into the MOST powerful version of me and I SHOW up and share with the world my mission.
So get out there and keep shining bright, my lovely lady.
