My 4 Favorite Ways to Balance your Hormones and Life

Do you want to balance your hormones? *raises hand*  Well if you want amazing energy, glowing skin, bloat-free tummy, and creative drive for life and fun! You WANT balanced hormones. Our hormones affect everything in our entire body.

Do you find yourself eating a perfectly healthy diet and you STILL cannot lose weight?  Do you suffer from irregular or super painful periods?  Does your skin breakout or feel dry? Do you feel moody and irritable more often than you would like to admit?

All of these problems are a sign that you need to balance your hormones.

Balance Hormones Naturally

I believe that when we suffer from imbalanced hormones ( or really the issue caused by imbalanced hormones), it’s a sign that our life is out of balance or out of alignment with our desires.

So what can you start doing today to bring back your hormones into balance?

The number one thing you can start doing is to start balancing periods of stress (work) with more rest, play, and FUN!

We live a society where we are praised about how much MORE we achieve and how much more we do.  And the truth is that pressure isn’t going anywhere, but being aware of this and understanding that it doesn’t have to be that way will help you start living a more balanced life.

So how does having fun help you balance your hormones?

When our stress level is high, our body starts pumping out cortisol and adrenaline so we have the ability to focus and get what we need done. (or run away from a bear)  This “high” feels really good and is how we can be so productive and focused.  It is also why coffee is so addicting, it increases our adrenaline which sends the  blood to our limbs and helps us stay hyper-aware! But this stress on top of other stressors of worry, fear, sickness, add up and our  body releases cortisol.  Cortisol takes priority above other hormones.  It even will convert other hormones like progesterone into cortisol! This is not good because progesterone is extremely important for the female’s body to stay fertile and glowing. Resting IS so important because our body heals during rest.  And when our body is under lots of stress (physical/mental/emotional) it takes away from the balance of our body’s hormones.

Our society today does not encourage rest.  We feel good about ourselves when we work harder and longer. We have the belief programmed into our brain that the MORE we do and achive the better and more worthy we are.  Now let’s add on everything else that we “should” be doing for our friends and family. We live in a highly masculine energy.  We are focused on achievement, competition, and doing more.  I don’t believe that as humans we were meant to live like this.  And I even further suggest the idea that we really aren’t achieving more by following this method of all work and little rest.

Especially, as creatives, we NEED to infuse our life with rest and play.  It keeps us feeling good and aligned with ourselves.  And when we are at this place of peace, then we are able to create beautiful work that fills us up and nourishes us completely from the inside out.  Just like we cannot create a baby when our body is stressed we cannot fully create beautiful art to share with the world.

Every time that I take care of myself and listen to exactly what my body needs I show up with more energy, more focus, and more stability to get what I need done. I feel HAPPIER and balanced.  So many of us are SEARCHING for happiness, but what if it just took in adding more time to pursuing what is truly nourishg to us?  Sometimes its HARD to intentionally play, but you always feel better.

Mantra: I choose to align my life with fun and play so I can create more beautiful work to impact the world. 🙂

I invite you to see relaxation as something that needs to be built into your life.  We need to be DEVOTED and COMMITTED to play, just like we are devoted to our work. 🙂

Next, I want to share with you some of my favorite lifestyle choices that you can help you balance your life….leading to balanced hormones.  Of course there are nutritious foods and supplements that can help balance your hormones too, but from what I see lifestyle is what most people are truly missing in there life.   So add in the lifestyle changes and then we can talk nutrition.

  1. Music & Dancing. – As a little girl, I used to sing a lot.  I loved it!  But as I got older, I had put music to the side focusing on other things. But recently, my eyes have been re-opened to how HEALING music is.  Just playing a beautiful song can be so healing for your entire body. It helps release all kinds of emotions. This a topic I want to dig into more, as I have learned that sound healing is an actual thing. (cool huh?)  I love listening to music on bike rides and of course dancing which is an all time favorite passion. <3
  2. Sunshine Walks. – Being in the sun is SO healing and balancing.  Sitting indoors all day is NOT how our body was created to thrive. Sunshine is also the BEST way for our body to receive vitamin D.  Vitamin D is a hormone that helps lift our mood and is so crucial for our immune system and overall health!  Sitting in the sun for 15-20 minutes is perfect to replenish our vitamin D and feel completely rejuvenated.  Again this is about BALANCE, too much sun will obviously damage your body, but so will not getting any.  We need it to be just right. 🙂
  3. Going to Sleep Early. – We all want more, but cannot seem to get enough sleep! Sleep is when our body does the most repair.  It is so important to get in good quality sleep as your entire body cleanses and resets itself and your hormones balance out!  Right now I am challenging myself to be in bed by 10pm every night.  I know this is something that I need to work on, and I always feel SO much better when I get in a good night’s sleep.  And my sugar cravings and food cravings are always diminished as I have lots more energy for the day!
  4. Finding Peace & Stillness. – In a world where quiet is almost non-existent, I believe that taking time to meditate is becoming ever more important.  For me, meditation isn’t so much about clearing the mind, but instead focusing on what I want more of in my life. It is clearing my mind of the junk, the worries, the anxieties, and anything else holding me down.  It is a time of peace that brings me back to myself, it’s a place where I can connect with God and make sure I am on the right path.  My feelings always tell me what I need more of and then I am able to go after what I want and clearly take action!  Whenever I feel negative feelings coming up, I know it’s time to meditate. I can ask myself, what is the REAL problem here? Why are these feelings coming up?  Do you need to re-prioritize your life? Is your daily agenda not in alignment with your values?  In my own experience, anxiety comes from a place of not being in alignment and not having a clear daily plan or not having enough self-care.  Whenever I take the time to re-examine and reflect, I feel instantly better.

Being dedicated to balancing my life isn’t easy.  There are SO many days that I want to stay up until midnight to read more.  There are days that I just want to lay around and not make a plan.  There are days that I don’t want to meditate instead I want to just DO more.  But then I remind myself, that my self-care is a commitment to myself.  And missing it…leaves a crabby and irritated Chelsea.  Its not always easy to take care of yourself, its not easy to cook healthy meals, work out, track your money, but every day we have the CHOICE to do it or not.   And its so worth it.   And I choose commitment and devotion to my well-being and to my life.  And really devotion to my happiness. <3

So what is one thing you can do today to commit to living a more balanced life? <3

Sending love,
Chelsea
