Food Trends 2016: Thoughts & Predictions

Now that 2015 is coming to an end FOOD trend predictions are popping up all over the place!! I love watching the new food trends being a TOTAL foodie myself. 🙂 Check out this article that lists the top 10 food trends according to Pinterest.  The BIG one that I am most interested in trying is pour-over coffee! I am getting sick of my Keurig (just not as good) and I want some REAL HIGH quality coffee! 😛  The pour-coffee idea sparked after learning about Bulletproof Coffee and now I am totally  noticing how crap coffee makes me feel. (Some coffee after 1 cup makes me feel completely sick and shaky and usually I feel great after only 1 cup of coffee – then it clicked – some types of coffee are moldy therefore making me sick and extra shaky!!) Nonetheless…I am on a mission to enjoy only top quality coffee, but to be honest I am already feeling that my body is saying it’s going to be year of green tea for me.

2016 Food Trends Predictions & Thoughts

Here is my review and thoughts on this article list of top food trends for 2016.

Veggie swaps – ie. Veggie Noodles or plant-based meals (vegan). This will continue to be a big trend for me, and I am excited to try all the new recipes I find on pinterest. (follow me for my favorites)  I hope to see this take off in restaurants and even could be a high quality fast food restuarant idea. (cauflower alredo on veggie noodles- to go?) NOW that would be super cool.

Beertails – Not sure what I think about this…I guess I would try one. I love beer…but beermosas? I might puke. Lol

Homebrews – I definitely won’t be brewing beer, but I would LOVE to go to a homebrew beer tasting contest. I request the Hoppy Beer please! (Right now my favorite beer includes: Revolution Brewing – Anti-Hero

I am all about high quality and gourmet food! So I am definitely onboard with gourmet heritage cuisine! I hope this becomes more and more popular because it would be fun to start seeing Norwegian restaurants! (I do live in Chicago so I get to see a lot of cool restaurants as is)

Snacking and bento boxes – I am not much of a snacker, but I tried one of these at the Gluten Free and Allergen Expo in Schaumburg this last year and it was pretty good I must say! It was a really cute picnic box with snacks that made you super excited to try the next one!

DIY artisan oils – I am definitely interested in this and to see if they are less toxic. I have been buying “high” quality olive oil, but I still had massive brain fog the last I ate an EVOO homemade dressing. No idea if it is because the oil was toxic or it could be just my body. Either way I would totally try something DIY.

Distilling your own booze – This is super cool. But not really into hard alcohol.

Avocado Oil – I am surprised this is the TOP trend. I haven’t tried avocado oil because I am so in LOVE with coconut oil, but maybe it will be a good replace for extra virgin olive oil in my homemade dressings. <3

My 5 Food HEALTH Trends for 2016.

  1. I think fermented foods will continue to take off and become more and more available in different shapes and sizes. Right now there is only 1-2 companies that look to be in the market for sauerkraut and um hello sauerkraut is how cheap to make!??? (okay – guess I know what I am doing after the holidays! )
  2. Bone Broth – I think it would be AWESOME if you could buy fresh REAL bone broth right in the whole food store! I know that boxed stuff is nowhere near as good for you! Again – something else I will be making after the holiday! But seriously why isn’t this more mainstream yet??!! Soon it will be sitting right next to the green smoothies! Or better yet coffee shops!
  3. Probiotic Drinks – The Kevita Brand Drinks and all Kombucha is still blowing up and again can be made homemade! #simple&healing
  4. Gelatin Gummies – Why haven’t I seen this in a store yet??? Maybe I am blind – I am looking out of this. It sounds like the healthiest mid-day snack yet! Gut healing and glowing skin gummy? Yes please!
  5. Healthy food in a Box – More and more companies are being created to put healthy food in a box! Now I am loving the convenience, but I looking for a competitive price especially as more and more companies decide to create better and better boxed food.

Well after that ^^^ I am thinking I need a Gut Healing Store packed full of sauerkraut, bone broth, kombucha, and gelatin gummies. (HEAVEN)  Yep such a foodie alert. #foodie #healthcoach

More and more AMAZING foods is becoming available at our finger tips. I remember over 5 years ago so excited for all these awesome new foods. And they continue to keep blowing my mind and amazing me!! All these FREAKING AWESOME new companies!!!
