Healthy Living Q&A: How do you eat healthy at restaurants? + MORE

WOW!! It has been almost 2 weeks now. On August 19th – 22nd, I had the opportunity to go to an amazing convention in Salt Lake City. I got to hang out with other top-notch health coaches from all over the US. I love meeting other like-minded people as I am constantly trying to surround myself with other ambitious and motivated people! Isn’t life so much easier when you have a beautiful network of amazing like-minded individuals?  The convention itself was extremely motivating and inspiring! I got to learn from Dr. Libby Weaver, Dr. Oz, Darren Hardy, Dr. Myron Wentz, Dr. Ladd McNamara and so many more!! I love soaking in as much as I can! I am so excited for the future and I am ready to take more action in my life and biz!!  Get ready for a wild end of 2015!!!

So today’s blogging challenge by the amazing Alex Beadon is a Q & A style blog!

As a passionate health nut and certified health coach, I get asked a lot of questions about healthy living. So today I want to share some of my top asked questions!

Q: How do you eat healthy at restaurants?

A: This is a tough question because as most people know cooking your own food is always the best option.  But eating out can be fun and sometimes we might not have another option, especially when we are traveling!

Here are some of the questions I ask myself when making a choice on the menu.

  1. What sounds the most delicious? Eating what feels good is important. Something on the menu might be a better option, but if you aren’t into it – you won’t be satisfied. Choose not only what tastes good, but what makes your body feel good.
  2. If you are eating at fast food restaurant, I would stay away from most all white carbs. I stick with high protein and skip the bun. If I order a salad, I always get the dressing on the side!
  3. Listen to your gut – Choose what you think will make you feel how you want to feel!!

For example: Feel tired – Skip heavy white carbs and creamy bases.  Eat more greens and protein!

  1. How full are you? Vegetarian is always a safe option if you unsure on meat quality or just aren’t as hungry.
  2. Choose something you can save for later! Save ½ the meal for leftovers!
  3. Looking for more tasty options on the go? – Contact me to learn about Nutrimeal – a low glycemic shake that tastes SO good and creamy and the PERFECT replacement for any meal especially on the go fast food meals.

Q: What do you eating at restaurants for glowing skin?

A:

  1. Order as many veggies as possible especially GREEN ones.
  2. Stay away from hydrogenated fats – fried foods, canola oil – these are inflammatory in the body. It is REALLY hard to avoid canola oil as everything is cooked in it. But just try your best and DO NOT STRESS. Stress will NOT help your skin. If the restaurant uses coconut oil, that is GOOD. Opt for that if it is an option!
  3. Order salmon or any fish – Omega 3’s are anti-inflammatory and help calm the skin’s redness
  4. Skip sugary desserts – Sugar is also inflammatory in the body.
  5. Drink LOTS of water. – Toxins ride out of the body on water molecules so drink up and say bye-bye toxins!!
  6. Avocado – These are AMAZING for skin!! Order up a side of extra avocado, please! Your skin will thank you!
  7. Take activated charcoal – This absorbs any toxins from the food that you have may ate during your meal!!

Q: How do you beat sugar cravings?

A:

  1. Eat a lots of vegetables and make sure it’s a full meal so you aren’t as hungry for sweets!
  2. Eat consistently over the day so you aren’t ravenous at night and scarf down a pan of brownies!
  3.  Eat foods that have magnesium – like nuts, chocolate, spinach, chard, yogurt, dark chocolate.
  4. Enjoy SOME sugar! – You are more likely to binge if you deprive yourself of ALL sweets.

I enjoy healthy foods that nourish and make

Again all these questions circle back to ONE thing eat for how you WANT to feel. Start honing in on how you want to feel. Start listening to how certain foods make your body feel.  If I feel GREAT, I am more likely going to allow myself to eat not as healthy foods. If I feel like CRAP, I avoid foods I know that will make me feel worse! TRUST your body to know what food feels good. We are animals! Do animals question what food to eat? They just KNOW! They know what is poison and what is not! We have the same instincts – they have just gotten lost in our way of life.
