Q: Tell us a little bit about your story and how you came to do what you do. – What lead you on your mission?
I was always a high achiever, ambitious and I always was working towards something. I felt that if I would just get “there” that I would happy. I was working to check all the boxes off. I finally got to a point where I just wasn’t happy and I felt bad for not being happy when I had everything I ever wanted. So I ended up quitting my job, dumping my boyfriend, and started learning about health and nutrition and I loved it! I enrolled in nutrition school and I thought I had found my new calling. Then while I was in school, I developed cystic acne all over….. I was devastated. I ate super healthy. I was eating organic and doing all the “right” things. How could this happen? I went into a deep depression and I ended up spending about 30k on detoxes, cleanses, red-light sauna, etc. You name it and I tried it! Nothing worked and every time something didn’t work my depression went deeper and deeper. Everything I was trying was an external fix. I started realizing how negative and hard I was on myself. I started looking at my thoughts and beliefs. I started to focus on loving me! And then it was like magic! ~ my skin started clearing up!
I realized in the moment that it is not all about food. You can eat all the kale you want, but if you don’t love yourself none of it will matter. If you don’t deal with the inner critic and the negative thoughts..it will still hold you back. I discovered that self-love needs to be at the forefront. It is so easy for us high-achievers to put on that brave face, and hide those inner thoughts. From this experience, it has really skyrocketed me on my life’s journey!
My mission to help support high-achieving, ambitious women who are really hard on themselves and have an inner critic that pushes them in a mean way. I want to help them master their thoughts, cultivate a sisterhood, and empower them to live the life that they crave. The success we desire in our lives all starts with learning to FLY. (First Love Yourself)
Q: What was the biggest hurdle you have overcame since starting your own business?
The biggest hurdle that I have ran into is self-doubt. First I felt like I didn’t have enough experience to do this work. I remind myself of my powerful story and that I healed my cystic acne by doing the inner work. There are so many people out there who need to hear this message and who are where I was! I don’t have to have coached thousands of people to be able to do this work.
Second I am still working at my full-time job. Somedays there is a part of me that thinks I should just be happy with what I have. The part of me that asks “Why don’t you just take the safe route?” I remind myself that it is a journey. I am never going to get to a point in my life where I don’t have self-doubt. You just have to keep working through it, acknowledge that it will be there, but you cannot let it stop you. Even the BEST coaches has those days of doubt and fear.
Q: Since becoming an entrepreneur – have there been challenges with living a healthy lifestyle? If so how do you handle them?
I value my full-time job that I have right now because it allows me to have the security of stable income. But that means that my time is definitely restricted. I went through a time where I was skipping workouts because I didn’t have time. I realized how necessary playing soccer and taking care of my body is. It helped my creativity, inspiration, and overall improve my work quality! It is not easy to fit in taking care of your health but it is so VITAL.
I don’t think I believe in balance. You cannot have everything perfect at all times, but prioritizing eating and exercising is so crucial. I make sure to schedule it in and keep it a daily practice. And another thing is to find exercise that you enjoy! Do something that you LOVE doing. Make living healthy easy for yourself and give yourself permission to not be “perfect” all the time.
Q: What is one piece of advice that you have a newbie entrepreneur or for anyone wanting to start a business?
The best advice is to definitely just start. It will never be the “perfect” time. The more you hold back the more you are keeping your gifts, expertise, and message from the world. Just feel the fear and do it anyway. And if you are scared, surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you. Ignore the naysayers. The people you are meant to help is your gift to the world. And it is all within your reach so do it now!
Q: What is your favorite go-to recipe/meal that you LOVE?
The Kits Kale Salad Recipe – <<<Click here for yummy recipe!
My friend from nutrition school, Mandy King (Healthy Eating and Living) created this recipe. I bring it to parties and it is SOO simple and easy to make! Most of the ingredients are always around at my house so it’s the perfect go-to meal!
Q: Any last advice or thoughts you want to share?
The one thing that I am really adamant about is that you can eat all the kale, sweat out all the calories, and say all the affirmations you want, but if you have a toxic mind filled with negative self-critical thoughts and you don’t learn to love yourself first. Success and happiness will continue to elude you. Once you do the inner work you can have everything that you want in your life.
