How to Make Things Happen & My 3 Current Food Obsessions

Helloo!

I have been busy behind the scenes working on some content packed blog posts, but it is taking me a bit longer than expected and I wanted to get out some sort of post this week!!

So I have decided I would start sharing more of what is going inside my brain and what I have been learning. This blog for me is super personal and I share my best thoughts through writing.  Writing is my best form of communication and the way for me to convey my thoughts.  It just seems harder to express my feelings and words in a nice package out loud. I just don’t like talking. Well okay that’s a lie, but it’s even scarier to be vulnerable through talking and that’s what I want to do more of here! I find that my favorite bloggers share a lot about themselves and are super open and that’s what I want to do more of.  Now this can be scary, but it’s also healing and I like healing so why not?!  AND my goal here is to help you discover new ways of thinking and create new neural pathways in their brain. (because seriously nothing is more awesome!) And I believe people learn best from hearing stories and other’s perspectives because we all see things differently accordingly to our life experiences.  So if you want to creating new neural pathways in your brain and making them stronger, keep reading! <3

New phases in life are certainly interesting. 2017, marks a new phase.  I have felt a transition this last month as I have dug in my heels and taken back my power. I have been spending most of my free time reflecting on my thoughts and planning my weeks because working every. single. day. has been rough. But I have discovered more about myself in these last few months, and one of those things is how much I like creating a plan.  Truth is I don’t LIKE creating the plan, but I love following through on the plan and not having to make decisions throughout the week.  Do you know how much work it is to ask “What workout should I do tonight?” or “What should I eat tonight?”  way.too.much.work.  Since I am non-stop working, I must make a weekly plan of when I am going to cook, grocery shop, and what I am going to eat over the week.  I plan every workout and everything I want to get done.  If it isn’t planned, it doesn’t get done. Now, I was doing this before working so much, but sometimes I got lazy and I didn’t want to plan.  (I think it’s the rebel in me sometimes I just don’t want to!!-I always regret it though when I skip it*sigh*)   Nonetheless, I have been forced to create a plan week after week and I love the rigidity, it keeps me in line.  I now see how important it is to plan especially when it comes making things happen. We only have so much energy in our brain to make decisions day to day so by planning it out in advance you no longer decide– you just do it.  Do you plan? I love hearing how other people make things happen in their life. Comment below and share!

Indecision SUCKS. Ok so this year I KNEW I needed more yoga. But yoga is freaking expensive. And I am already signed up at OTF.  A part of me just wants to pay another 100 bucks for a yoga studio because I NEED it, but I haven’t found that studio that just sucks me in, besides ONE studio which happens to be 30 minutes away. *tear* Anyway, I have been indecisive for the last month praying for my intuition to guide me, and nothing yet. I am stuck here not doing yoga and being indecisive. This realization came to me, that I just need to freaking decide.  So yea, I hereby declare that I will decide by Friday February 3rd.  WOW that felt good, and I think I just decided. 😉 If you want to make things happen, you cannot sit in indecisions. Give yourself a period of time, decide, and be done with it!

What are you being indecisive about? It’s a sucky place to be – isn’t it? Schedule in a deadline to make your decision and share below so you are held accountable! Just think, how much energy are you wasting trying to make the BEST decision?

Today while listening to Lori Harder’s podcast interview with Tara Stiles – she made a statement saying simply that “people do yoga to feel better”. This got me thinking that basically all self-care can be viewed from this perspective that we do it to simply feel better. Life is rough. The day to day can bring us down and there is always a new challenge to face.  But taking time to eat yummy nourishing food, make time for yoga, brings our body back to one goal – to feel better. This is obvious I suppose, but I think the simplicity gets so easily lost especially this time of the year.  It is easy to focus on everything that is wrong with ourselves so we create resolutions. But are they based out of love? Or are they rooted in fear that you don’t believe you are worthy enough unless you reach your goal? Think about that.  There is nothing wrong with having goals as humans thrive off working towards something, but in the back of your mind are you yelling at yourself for not meeting expectations?  If you have health goals, how often do you judge yourself if you don’t eat “good enough” or you don’t work out “good enough”? And how are we to judge something like this? There isn’t a standard that lays out the “perfect” plate for eating. The “perfect” workout.  We just make it up in our heads!  It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when you think about it.  Thus, I love the idea of measuring our progress on how good we feel. Mmm – it just sounds so much more magical and loving.  The better we feel the closer we get to our goal! How can you make your goals more fun? More loving? I can ensure that it’s easier to make things happen when you make it fun!

So those are some of my thoughts lately…I have loads more, but I cannot make this post too long. Haha Maybe I will try to do this weekly…stay tuned!

Now I want to get into the real JUICY stuff. My current obsessions!!! **** I honestly think life is more fun with obsessions.  I have always had obsessions and they just make me SO happy. This is going to be specifically my current favorite food obsessions.

  1. Fennel – The smell, the taste, the texture, i love fennel seeds! I want to dump them on everything. Plus they are super great for digestion! I recently tried this delicious fennel soup which was very simple and nourishing and it was my first time using a real fennel!! But if that sounds like too much work I suggest you break out your fennel seeds and try them in your next recipe. BUT if you don’t like experimenting with random spices in your food, stay tuned because I have a recipe that I am going to be sharing with you soon that includes this delicious spice!  And if you cannot wait – check out my breakfast hash recipe that uses fennel.
  2. Sweet Potato Toast with Tahini! – No words. No words. I am obsessed with sweet potato toast. I have one almost every night.(and not just one toast, ha! The entire sweet potato sliced up in mini toasts. I spread on tahini butter and sprinkle with lots of salt! The sweetness of the potato goes PERFECTLY with the tahini and salt just adds to crave-worthiness.  I love how amazing it is and how nutrient dense it is. Omgoshseriously. Can you believe i used to despise sweet potatoes?/! What was wrong with me!?
SP and avocado toast aren’t even the same anymore after this baby. Go try it now.
  3. Tempeh – Ok, there is so much controversy about soy. But you know what!? I don’t care. Even though I am convinced my estrogen levels are likely high, but nonetheless I am going to be eating tempeh weekly because it is so freaking delish! (besides there is studies out there that some soy is good to help balance estrogen levels, so I am probably fine and because it’s not just any soy it’s FERMENTED soy. Yep the fancy F word and the texture of tempeh is fantastic! (it’s the best part) I buy the Lightlife brand and slice it up into cubes.  (BTW tempeh cuts up so nice and evenly it’s just so satisfying to cut it up.) And then I pan fry it until crispy in some coconut oil and water.  And that’s it! I made this amazing tempeh brussel sprouts hash recently >>> link here. And I was hooked.  Lots of fiber, lots of protein, and fermented! Heck tonight I just ate the tempeh plain because I am just so obsessed with the texture.  You just have to taste for yourself!

What your favorite food obsessions? What do you eat weekly and just cannot get sick off? I want to know!! Share below! <3

Have a beautiful rest of your weekend lovely! xx
