Non-Toxic Living Resources
Hey Guys! I am super excited to write this post and share with you everything I know about limiting the toxins and some of my non-toxic living resources!
But WHY should you clean up the toxins?
For a long time, I was resistant to caring about toxins. It can be VERY overwhelming because it seems like everything is toxic! And yes, we do live in a world abundant of toxins and it can seem impossible. But it is not. We can make different choices and switch to different products. We are already spending money on these things so might as well be a better choice for our health and our family’s health.
Every choice you make matters. Even if you just start with ONE upgrade, it will impact your health in a big way. Do not feel like you need to spend thousands of dollars today. I am still on the journey of upgrading equipment and reducing my toxic load. (I am nowhere near “perfect”)
Choose one thing that feels simple and go on from there. 😊
How Toxins Impact our Body
Everyone processes toxins differently. Some people metabolize them fast and some slow. (You can learn this on a HTMA). But everyone needs to care about limiting toxins because they can impact us in different ways.
Toxic Overload can cause:
Disruption of Hormones
Metabolic Dysfunction
Brain Fog
Fatigue
Headaches/Migraines
Skin Issues
Digestive Issues
Allergies
Weakened Immune System
Endocrine Disorders
Autoimmune Disorders
Infertility
And More!!
One way we can support our liver and detoxification is to limit the toxins that our liver has to filter. Read more here about supporting the liver for detox here and daily habits you can incorporate into your life.
“Limiting toxins does make an impact on your body’s health and can be the tipping point to take your health from sick to healed. “
-Chelsea Jolene
To simplify the process, here are the areas I recommend upgrading and links to my favorite non-toxic living resources!
1. Cleaning Products.
There are SO many cleaning alternatives that I found this upgrade super easy and one of the first things I switched over.
Here are some companies I trust!
Norwex, Branch Basics, Doterra, Young Living
Laundry Detergent – OnGuard Doterra Laundry Detergent.
Dishwasher Soap – Norwex.
All Purpose Spray – DIY with essential oils (recipe here)
Dusting Mitt – Norwex
2. Body Care Products.
Did you know that most women put on 10+ products before leaving the house? These chemicals are one more thing our body needs to eliminate.
Here are some products that you can easily upgrade:
Shampoo – I have two favorites that I switch back and forth.
Doterra Protecting Shampoo – This one is very cleansing and hydrating.
Beauty Counter Volume & Shape Shampoo – This one helps give my fine hair more volume.
Conditioner – This is the same with the shampoo.
Doterra Smoothing Conditioner – My hair feels soft, but not too flat.
Beauty Counter Volume & Shape Conditioner – This gives me extra volume when I want it!
Lotion – I don’t have a specific lotion that I recommend. TBD.
Toothpaste – I like Nature’s Gate Whitening Toothpaste because it does not have carageenan.
Hand Soap – I like Doterra’s OnGuard Hand Soap
Deodorant – I love Primally Pure Lemongrass Deodorant. It smells so good and I feel like I am detoxing my body. 🙂
3. Skincare and Makeup
Makeup and skincare might be a bit trickier because you want to make sure it does it’s job! I have slowly upgraded my makeup to make sure I actually like each product.
Personally, I love beauty counter products and they work great. I use for both my skin care and makeup.
Here are my favorite safer skin and makeup products:
Eyeshadow – This pallet is beautiful and super pigmented. The only thing I wish they had more matte shades. And sometimes the sparkly ones are fun, but they can irritate my eyes a bit more while applying. This is not the exact pallet that I have, but it is very similar.
Mascara – I love the volume mascara. Mascara is my go-to product and has always been my favorite makeup product. The lengthening is great too (no complaints), but I think I like the volume one a bit more. It lasts and doesn’t irritate my eyes! (or hasn’t yet at least)
Eye Liner – The eyeliner is another great product! The brush is very easy to handle to make as thin or thick as you want. My only request is they make a brown shade. I love black, but its a bit harsh for everyday on me. So I try to blend in with eyeshadow or keep thin.
Night Cream – This night cream is awesome. I love how it hydrates my skin. I never breakout from it. It is my favorite to keep my skin for aging too much. lol
Day Time Moisturizer – I love this moisturizer, it balances my skin and keeps its hydrated. It never feels greasy because has a bio-mimic technology that provides the skin exactly what it needs. Overall, I just love it! It is a great product!
Face Oils – I have always hated face oils because I had such oily skin or they made me breakout. But these product is amazing and helps my skin with redness, plumpness and hides my forehead lines. The smell is also a magical jasmine scent. I highly recommend!!
I love beauty counter. All their products are amazing so I buy as much from this company as I can because I want to support their mission of Safer Beauty and get these products in everyone’s hands.
4. Reducing Plastic
Plastic is full of chemicals like BPA which disrupt the endocrine system. And the plastic chemicals leach into your food and water.
It’s always best to avoid plastic as much as you can and use glass especially when heating up food in the microwave.
Here is what I recommend using instead of plastic:
- Glass Food Storage Containers
- Glass Water Bottles
- Use Glass Straws
- Avoid Buying Food in Plastic Containers/Bottles
5. Drinking Filtered Water
Unfortunately, tap water is filled with chemicals like fluoride, lead, chlorine, uranium, arsenic, etc.
If you want to check what is in your tap water, check out this site. It is called EWG Tap Water Database.
I recommend purchasing an Reverse Osmosis Water filter. (like this one) They remove chromium, arsenic, fluoride, pesticides, and herbicides. The one I use adds minerals back in which are critical for health and cellular function. Drinking plain RO water isn’t the best idea so be sure to add in the minerals back in for proper hydration.
I recommend travel filter water bottles when traveling so you can have access to filtered water all the time! (without buying bottled mineral water in plastic)
Upgrading your water might sound like a lot upfront. But once you buy 1 filter, think of how it will become a lasting habit that will decrease the amount of heavy metals you will ingest!
In conclusion:
These are a just a few things that you can focus on upgrading your life. I plan to add to this list as I find new products that I love. (so check back) But I wanted to provide this list for everyone looking for non-toxic living resources!
Comment below with one thing that you learned from this list! And one thing you plan to upgrade next!
