Radiant Living Guest Expert: “Getting Intimate with Fear” with Britny West
Hello Lovely Ladies!!
Today, I got a chance to interview the AMAZING Britny West!! Britny is a Life and Biz Empowerment Coach for the driven woman ready to pursue her big dreams now rather than “someday.” She’s been featured on the Huffington Post and is DITCHING her corporate job in October! I am so pumped to have her on the Radiant Living Guest Expert Series!!
Q: Britny, Tell us a little bit about your story and how you came to do what you do. – What lead you on your mission?
A: I graduated pre-med in college. I decided not to go into medical school, but I knew I still wanted to help people. I got my masters in psychology and public health. Then I became a certified Health and Wellness Coach through WellCoaches. I am working now in health and wellness, but ultimately switched to help others with building their mindset. What sparked my shift was my own past struggles, I struggled with depression about 3 years ago. I couldn’t find a job after college and I felt like a failure at life. It was a hard time, but it started my journey towards finding happiness. I ordered every book on happiness out there and just read and implemented as much as I could. Over time I finally got to the point where I started loving myself. Looking back on the experience, I like to say that I was my own first client. So now after working in the corporate world as a health coach, I decided that it was not the right place for me. Being in the corporate world doesn’t align with my values as I really longed for the freedom to travel! So I hired a coach and started building a community in the online world. I realized I wanted to help others find success who were recovering perfectionists, driven, but still scared of not being good enough.
So I started my own business, and now I am life and business coach. My ultimate goal is to help women build a success mindset foundation. I dig through the fear blocks and help my clients gain momentum and visibility in their business. I really want to help people create a freedom based life and ditch the 9-5.
Q: What was the biggest hurdle you have overcame since starting your own business?
Honestly, fear of being visible. At first I didn’t want to post things because I felt like a fraud. I felt that other coaches knew more and could provide more value. I didn’t want to post and then get no comments. I had lots of mental chatter saying that I wasn’t good enough. I had to recognize that I do have value. Our gifts feel like second nature to us because we are good at it. I had to learn to give myself credit for my gifts. We think “oh this is common sense” but it is really not common sense to everyone. Most people aren’t acknowledging the gifts that they have. I had to tell myself I am not here to prove myself. I am here to serve.

Q: Since becoming an entrepreneur – have there been challenges with living a healthy lifestyle? If so how do you handle them?
Yes, I realized that I love my business more than I love eating. Half the day will go by and I realize I didn’t eat breakfast or lunch. So now I make sure to schedule it in. I schedule a hour lunch break. It is really easy to not step away and take a break when we need to. Even though I won’t be in the corporate environment anymore I need to schedule breaks in like a regular job. It is so easy to get burnt out if I don’t. Time management and scheduling is key to staying healthy and avoiding burnout.
Q: What is one piece of advice that you have a newbie entrepreneur or for anyone wanting to start a business?
Do not let fear stop you from doing something you love. When you do feel fear, dig into the fear. Get intimate with the fear. Don’t act like it is not there. Ask yourself – where is this coming from? Once you face it, you realize it isn’t as bad as you thought.
Dig into your BIG WHY and hold unto it like it’s your life raft.
People actually aren’t afraid of failure. People are more worried about the fear of success. They are afraid of all the visibility that comes with success.
For example, one thing that scares me is Periscope. I am going to be doing it every day next week for my Visibility Challenge. But you just have to get over it.
Q: What is your favorite go-to recipe/meal that you LOVE?
Green Smoothies – I am selling everything I own before I abroad… but my Vitamix. I just love my Vitamix! I can’t live without it!
Here is my favorite recipe!
Green Smoothie
1 TBSP Chia Seeds
Enough to Blend – Almond Milk
Handful Kale
1 frozen banana
1 TBSP Nut Butter
Final thoughts:
People love our imperfections – The things that we don’t like about ourselves, people LOVE. People want to know that we are REAL. We are so much more lovable when we show up as we are. Don’t let the fear of imperfection hold you back.
