A year ago, I listened to a personal trainer trying to give me standard dietary advice. I ended up feeling more bloated and tired of trying his beliefs.  And yes I was stressed because I was paying him a lot of money to help me reach my goals – the least I could do was follow his advice…right?  A couple days ago, a different trainer told me that I needed to be at 10%-18% body fat….you can check out normal body fat here.  I have no desire to be that low and I am not sure I would be functioning very well….

Experts, coaches, and trainers can be wrong.  People are going to try to convince you that their philosophy is right.  I believe a real expert has an open mind and would never tell someone that they are wrong.  #truth

The path to health isn’t a one-way street.

Just like being successful or building a business…there isn’t only one direct path.  There are MULTIPLE paths to success.  And there are multiple paths to creating the body and nourished life that you crave.

I never tell someone they are wrong ^^besides the obvious like 10-18% body fat^^ because what works for them might be perfect for them.  But that doesn’t mean that is what will work for me.  Diet books are only success stories of one person’s journey to finding what works for them.  As you can see there are MILLIONS of diet books and millions of different ways that worked for THEM.

I don’t push or prescribe one diet because I believe in making up my own. I craft my own health recipe for wellness success which leaves me feeling energized and really confident in my body and I help my clients do the same!

Your intuition! 

I imagine you know you likely know A LOT about health and wellness.  You probably have read all the latest books and you know a lot of the trends. Or maybe you feel SO confused about what to eat that you have just given up completely and you continue to eat an entire bag of “healthy” chips while you sit in the anxiety of this confusing world we live in.

Well, now is the time to dust of your unused natural born skill – your intuition. As women, our intuition is incredibly strong. If something isn’t good for us, we know. We are extremely sensitive creatures due to our ability to create life. Our job is to create and protect ourselves and our babies and we cannot do that if something bad is going to harm us.

Along with your intuition, it is important to continually grow and learn. Our intuition strengthens the more knowledge we have and the more often we use it by NOT questioning ourselves and going with our gut.

Start using it and you will see it grow and become SPOT on.

Here are 4 simple steps to start using and strengthening your intuition around food.

  1. Buy 2 new/random vegetables that LOOK amazing. Go to the store and pick any 2 vegetables that look delish! I suggest only picking one or two new veggies a week to not overcomplicate your life. Definitely pick more if it is not too overwhelming. Craft some meals around these 2 veggies. Even as a health coach, there were lots of veggies I didn’t like. Slowly my body has lead me to try new ones that I thought I would NEVER like. (ie sweet potatoes, butternut squash, beets)  Trying new foods is not only fun, but it’s great to feel how you feel after different veggies. Look up the benefits of eating these foods and imagine your  body healing when you eat them.  This helps to try new veggies, build belief that they will help you heal, and understand what types of veggies to eat at different times.
  2. Cook meals based on how you want to feel. Eat salads to feel lighter. Eat soups to feel warm and grounded.  You might already do this but start really feeling into it and being intentional about your meal planning.  When I pick out my meals, I think about how I want to feel and I pick a few main foods that I want to integrate that week.
  3. Clean up your products and remove the chemicals from your surroundings. Chemicals and processed food actually block your ability to use your intuition. Use less chemicals by switching up your household products, perfumes, and eating more real food. The more chemicals that you remove from your life the more sensitive you become to your surroundings which strengthen your intuition.
  4. Sugar? Yes or No? Next time you are out with friends and the cake or wine comes out. Ask yourself do you really want this cake or glass of wine?  Can your body handle eating a cake right now? Does it even sound good? Sometimes we feel pressured to eat it because everyone else does.  ….would you jump off a cliff if everyone else did…lol  It is basically the same thing.
    We know sugar isn’t good for us and if you are doing it only because everyone else is and not for pure enjoyment. It might not be the best choice for you.  But if your health feels great and the sugar won’t bring you down too low – then by all means go for it! 🙂
    Using my intuition around sugar and other kryptonite foods have been extremely helpful to guide me to always make the best choice and so I don’t end up feeling like crap.
  5. Make a list of your Symptoms.  Symptoms are signals that our body gives to us telling us that something is wrong.  Take note of daily symptoms and integrate foods to help eliminate the symptoms.  Choose one or two and pick what feels right to you.  Less is always better so you can really see any changes.

My last note…Keep a journal and track what you eat and do and how you feel.  This is a great way to start understanding how different foods affect you and soon it will become second nature.  Heck even today as I have been drinking my lemon water, sleeping extra and enjoying beets in my yummy salad, I could just SEE my liver cleansing and I feel pretty great!  {My skin looks pretty great too}
